Waxing Hair Removal Waxing hair removal has been around for a long time, but unfortunately, due to the pain factor, it hasn’t enjoyed such good press as other hair removal systems. This is a shame since there is no doubt that waxing leaves a great smooth and silky finish, with the result lasting up to six weeks.
What does waxing involve? The waxing method
actually attempts to pull the root of the hair out from under the skin.
It is only ever partially successful with most hairs follicles breaking off
above the skin. Even this though damages the hair and retards growth. Hairs that do grow back are often lighter and finer than previous growth.
If waxing is continued it will eventually result in permanent hair
removal. ______________ There are two types of waxing hair removal, these are the cold or warm waxing. In both cases strips of porous cloth are placed over the waxed area, and then ripped off, pulling the hairs out with it!
However waxing using warm wax is a little more complicated. The temperature of the wax is critical since hot wax will burn the skin, the advantage is that the melted wax congeals around the hairs giving greater adhesion when it is time to rip off the strip. A warning, hot wax is very dangerous, great care must be taken when using this method. ______________ Cold waxing is performed with prepared strips of cloth with a wax type adhesive on one side. This is then pressed onto the treatment area before again being ripped off. Though not as effective, the cold waxing has the advantage of being less messy and not heat sensitive. There is a third adhesive called Sugaring. This is a sticky sugar paste made from sugar, water and gum arabic. These are best bought as proprietary brands rather than try to make them yourself, the methodology remains the same.
Pulling the strip off at the right angle and speed is a big factor in minimizing the pain. A timid approach will not give you the right speed so will end up being more painful! ______________ Practice might be alright for the arms and legs, but a warm wax done professionally may be the least painful solution for the genital area. ______________ For first time users of waxing it is advisable to do a test patch first, if the skin shows adverse reactions such as sever redness or irritation, you will have avoided a lot of discomfort. Use of waxing hair removal kits is also recommended. A little soreness or redness after waxing is natural, treat the area with a gentle lotion such as Aloe-Vera and it shouldn’t last too long. ______________ Waxing hair removal only works well if there is enough hair to adhere to the wax, for this reason it is advisable to allow the hair to grow to a suitable length before treatment.
The procedure of Brazilian waxing has seen an increase in demand, this is the removal of all hair, or all but a small strip of hair from around the genitals. Brazilian waxing is considered by some to heighten sexual appeal as well as improve hygiene. ______________ Waxing hair removal is quick and relatively inexpensive compared to other methods such as laser hair removal. While trends come and go, there is no reason to suppose that the demand for waxing hair removal is going to wane. Once people have experienced the clean smooth look, it is unlikely that society as a whole will revert back to the hairy body. Waxing hair removal will continue to be the popular option, as product and technique improve. Written by Trish Powell
