Threading Hair Removal Threading hair removal, although fairly new to the western world, has been practiced by eastern women for many centuries. Possibly originating in Turkey but practiced in Egypt where it is called Fatlah, and in Arabia where it is known as Khite. Threading hair has migrated as Middle Eastern women have moved west. The popularity of threading hair lays in it’s simplicity and being inexpensive. It is also thought by many to be less painful than tweeze hair removal. Once the technique of threading hair removal has been mastered it is quicker than plucking, as several hairs in a line may be taken out together. ______________ As threading removal takes the hair out by the root, the re-growth is slow, 2-3 weeks, and the new hair is lighter and finer in texture. The methodology of threading removal is not something that can easily be taught from a manual, but should be learnt from somebody who is already proficient at the art. In it’s basic form threading hair is the twisting of a cotton thread that traps the hairs in the twist and pulls them out by the root. The twists are created rather like the cat’s cradle with a loop or even holding one end between the teeth. ______________ Threading hair is normally practiced on oneself; it is hard anyway to find an epilator who has been trained in the procedure. As threading could involve holding one end of the cotton tread in your teeth, it can be seen that threading hair removal is mainly performed on facial hair, though it is suitable for any parts of the body where you might tweeze. Preparation for threading hair is very much the same as tweezing in so far as it is better to perform the threading after a hot shower or bath, and to have a hot wash cloth to hand to warm the skin before threading, as this will open the pores and facilitate the hair removal. A good mirror and light are needed and a moisturizer for post treatment. ______________ As threading hair removal takes a straight line of hairs, it has become very trendy in the shaping of eyebrows with many Hollywood stars both male and female using this technique, now known as Bollywood Brows, to good effect.
