Sexual Health

Overall health and well being is directly related to our sexual health and therefore good sex.   When your sex glands are in good working order they secrete hormones that affect your health as a whole.

The rewards of healthy sex glands include greater vitality, more energy and better sex.

Good nutrition, exercise and adequate sleep are all required for sexual health that will help to stimulate the full power of your sex glands and lead to more satisfying sex. Healthy sex glands secrete the right amount of hormones essential for a healthy sex life. These hormones help the body to rejuvenate and sustain it’s energy. Research shows that people who have sex regularly are more likely to maintain higher hormone levels.

Some things like shock, stress or illness can have an adverse effect on our sexual health and the sex glands in particular. Unfortunately these things aren’t always avoidable, however some things that reduce the potency of your sex glands are within your control.

Substances that reduce potency include alcohol, cigarettes, tranquillizers and coffee. Nicotine constricts the arteries and reduces the blood flow through the body. For males, if the blood flow to the penis is severe, it will cause impotency. Some drugs such as those prescribed for heart or blood pressure can also help to cause impotency in some men. Large amounts of alcohol have a very adverse affect and may cause permanent damage over a period of time.

Good diet and adequate sleep are absolutely necessary for maintaining sexual health and performance. Zinc is vital to nourish the reproductive system and prostate gland. Because zinc produces testosterone it is an essential hormone for sexual desire in both men and women.

Your diet should include plenty of grain products, fruit and vegetables on a daily basis, along with several glasses of water to flush your system. Vitamin E can be helpful to stop hormones being destroyed while Ginseng has long been used to enhance sexual health and vigor.

A certain amount of exercise is beneficial but too much will reduce the sexual vigor. Try to avoid very hot showers or baths, as the testicles particularly, require a cool temperature to function properly.

For males, fear of impotency is the biggest concern in sexual health, this can lead to depression and low self esteem which only serves to make the situation worse. If there is no medical reason for impotency a radical assessment of lifestyle might be considered. In the end sexual health, happiness and  harmony are goals well worth striving for.

For men a simple exercise involving the muscles around the anus can have very beneficial results. This exercise can also help to strengthen the prostate, prevent hemorrhoids and may help correct problems related to impotency. The exercise is best done twice a day, and like any exercise time and patience are required.

Tighten the muscles around the anus and draw them upwards. It should feel as if the whole area is being drawn in and upwards. Hold for as long as it is comfortable and relax. Repeat.

At first this will be difficult and you may be unable to hold the muscles at all. If you persist over a period of time it will become easier and you will be able to hold for longer periods. At first, limit yourself to two or three attempts, do not strain or tire yourself in any way.

From a woman’s point of view the greatest concern in sexual health is fatigue.  Running a home, pursuing a career or maybe doing both, can mean you are too busy or too tired for sex. It’s essential to set aside time no matter how difficult to enjoy the love and harmony that good sex brings. Not only will it rejuvenate your body it will add zest and life to your relationship.

Statistics indicate that one out of every three relationship break-ups is due to sexual dysfunction. According to recent reports,

  • More than 46% of women in America experience little or no sexual satisfaction.  

  • Over 40 million have actually lost their desire for sex.  

  • Many do not achieve orgasm with clitoral stimulation

  • Only 25% of sexually active women achieve orgasm with intercourse.

In fact, countless numbers of women between the ages of 18 and 80 have never achieved orgasm at all, or have orgasms so mild they don't even recognize them as such.

Practicing the pelvic floor exercises  will enable you to gain extra pleasure from your love-making, the heightened sensations will allow both parties to benefit.

Here is a rejuvenating tonic for the male genitals using essential oils. Apply after a warm shower by massaging gently into the skin.

Mix 5 drops of Juniper, 8 drops of Sandalwood and 12 drops of lavender into 50mls of Jojoba oil. Decant into a glass bottle and store in a dark place. Use the tonic on a daily basis.

If you need to relax and unwind before sex try using a room vaporizer or take a bath.

Essential oils are very powerful mood enhancers and shouldn’t be overlooked as an aid to sensual awareness and sexual health.

Try one of these:

  • 8 to 10 drops of geranium in the bath is relaxing and uplifting.

  • 8 to 10 drops of lavender will relax and soothe.

  • 8 drops of Sandalwood is sensual and mellowing.

  • 2 drops of lavender and 3 of Neroli in the vaporizer is settling and calming.

  • 3 drops of Patchouli and 3 drops of Roman Chamomile is soothing and uplifting.

Important warning.  Be aware that some oils are not suitable for people with medical conditions such as high blood pressure or epilepsy.

Sexual health is a fundamental part of a couples relationship, so it can be seen that it becomes an important part of any holistic health program.  At first glance it would seam that sexual health should not be a problem, but it still has a lot of taboos.  Sexual health is often the problem that is hushed up, left to fester and then break up a relationship and destroy health.
