Improve memory is about strategies and techniques you can use to keep your memory sharp. The occasional memory lapse is normal so don’t panic because getting stressed will make it worse. Instead concentrate on what you can you can do to improve memory.

Bear in mind there are a few things that can cause or exacerbate memory loss or forgetfulness.

Common reasons for memory loss

Age does cause the memory processes to slow down, but we now know that the brain can produce new cells at any age. This is exciting because it means we can improve memory by training the brain.  Memory loss can be caused by:

  • Depression.
  • Vitamin B 12 deficiency.
  • Thyroid problems.
  • Alcohol abuse.
  • Age
  • Stress

Meeting People.

When you are introduced to someone new, pay attention to their name and use it straightaway. If possible use it a couple of times and later after you part company re enforce it like this:  “It was nice to meet John and Mary today.”

This is a form of repetition and locks it into your long term memory.  It’s a well known exercise to improve your memory  that works.

Remember Numbers

If you need to remember numbers break them down into blocks.
Take the number 194632.
Break it into two parts like so: 194 632 or three parts 19 46 32.

Many people use this improve memory method for telephone and credit card numbers.

It also helps to relate the numbers to something you are familiar with i.e. birth dates, house numbers, historical dates or even sports scores. This works well if you train yourself regularly


Rehearsing is a tried and true memory technique.  When you really need to remember something repeat it over and over again. I hated math but to this day I remember the time tables even though I’ve forgotten everything else. May be a bit boring but it works!


Concentration and attention.  When you filter out all the distractions, sometimes called ‘white noise’ and really concentrate, your memory has a better chance to retain the information. You can have a good memory if you take the time to practice

Memorizing by Association.

Memorizing by association. Using an image or word to help you to remember.  This is another common method to improve memory. When you picture the image or word it helps to narrow the search making it easier and quicker.

Rhyming is a similar approach. Everyone favors different methods, find out which improve memory exercise works for you and practice it often.

If you are studying you will need high levels of concentration to improve the retention rate. Don’t overload your system, break information into manageable chunks and take regular breaks.


A good diet is essential for memory health however supplements are a good way to ensure that you are getting the correct nutrients. Try these for an extra boost.

  • Bacopa Monnieri is an Asian herb considered to be very good for memory and concentration.
  • Vitamin B 12 important for good memory function.

Make sure you get plenty of quality rest. If you have problems sleeping consider meditation, relaxing meditation discs or download for an mp3 are a great idea they really help you to relax.

Social interaction.

Research has shown that good relationships and social interaction help to improve memory and stimulate the brain.


Staying active, especially walking is good for memory retention.  It has a great deal to do with blood circulations taking oxygen to the brain.

Mind Games

To improve memory and keep your mind in shape look for new challenges and do mind games such as crossword puzzles and Sudoku on a regular basis.

I love this, it’s so simple but gives your memory a real workout. Remember what you had for every meal in the past week, sounds easy but it will get you going believe me.

Think up your own exercises and do them often.
