Hair InhibitorsHair inhibitors are not stand alone hair removal systems. They can ultimately lead to permanent hair removal, but they are mainly seen as retardants. This is a pity because if their function were really understood by the consumer then hair inhibitors could play a major role in hair removal techniques. One of the reasons that inhibitors have not fulfilled their potential is the number of sub standard products on the market, and some of the exorbitant claims for their effectiveness. With a little research though consumers will soon find the long standing products that come with guarantees. ______________ Most hair inhibitors work by using plant enzymes to destroy the dermal papilla at the base of the hair root, while other hair inhibitors work by sealing off the dermal papilla so that the hair cells can not grow through it. Both systems though require the hair inhibitor to penetrate the skin and flow down to the dermal papilla. To do this it is best if the hair is removed by the root first, by waxing, laser or electrolysis, allowing a pathway of entry. It can be done after shaving, but it will take much longer for results to show as the hair inhibitor has to seep down the remaining hair before reaching the dermal papilla.
These hair inhibitors are not depilatories, they do not remove the hair, this must be done with a hair removal treatment first, the hair inhibitors job is to retard the re-growth, allowing greater lengths of time between treatments of the original hair removal system. ______________ The inhibitor is easily applied to the skin after hair removal, twice a day for the first week then once a day for about four weeks or until there is a re-growth of hair. The new hair will be finer and lighter in colour. A test area should always be done to make sure there is no adverse reaction to the hair inhibitor, and the manufacturers instructions followed precisely. The best inhibitors will contain a moisturizer that will help the skin recover form the hair removal treatment. Other cosmetics can usually be applied over the hair inhibitor once it has soaked into the skin. ______________ It can be appreciated that having gone through the pain of waxing or the expense of other hair removal treatments, then the chance to prolong the onset of the next treatment with a hair inhibitor should be taken.
